When we talk about love, then one phrase often comes to us that is LOVE IS BLIND. This phrase was first of all used by Shakespeare in his MERCHANT OF VENICE as far as found. Let’s see how Shakespeare has used it in his writing.
JESSICA: Here, catch this casket; it is worth the pains.
I am glad ’tis night, you do not look on me,
For I am much ashamed of my exchange:
But love is blind and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit;
For if they could, Cupid himself would blush
To see me thus transformed to a boy.
People who don’t believe in love often use this phrase to criticize love. But no matter how people use it, the meaning of this very phrase can be interpreted in various ways. Ok let me interprete it in my way.
Love is such a abstract and eternal aspect of this matter worthy world which makes man blind. One when falls in love, sees nothing around besides love and affection. Love is very much different from sex and lust, however they come along same way in some of the interpretations, but not to relate them together but to dignify the word LOVE. Then you would ask me why do I say love is blind! It’s very simple. It’s not that lovers are blind and they see nothing. But it’s true, that people in love cannot see choas and anarchism. They can’t see anything false. They see only the right considered things, by human heart. They beleive in humanity and peace which in fact is the way to prosperous society. The boundaries made by the so called society and the fake culture are all worthless to those who love. Ok, let’s see how the phrase got derived.
“The Greeks and Romans considered that the God of Love (Eros in Greek, Cupid in Latin) was blind, because lovers are blind to the faults or the unsuitability of the one they love. Sometimes they painted or sculpted Eros/Cupid with a blindfold, just to make the point.
The proverb “Love is blind” derives directly from this concept, and has been used by English writers from Chaucer and Shakespeare onwards.”
Now, don’t get love as something else, not the jealousy, not the lust, nothing else. Love is human solidarity expressed in any of the means but expression itself isn’t love. It can be for living or non living existants. May be you caught me somewhere else like in teenage love. But dear, don’t get into specific occasions. People who live in hypothesis may not understand what love is and may not beleive in love but that doesn’t matter. Everybody has love in his heart and that works if he explores it with his eyes wide.
